Waseem Ahmed Bhat has secured 7th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2022. He is a native of Jammu & Kashmir. He had already secured AIR 225 in UPSC CSE 2021. He put a lot of effort into his preparation from a young age, and he has finally been successful in cracking the most challenging exam to enter the Civil Services and serve the country.

Educational background

He has completed his B.Tech degree from NIT Srinagar in Civil Engineering. After graduation he went to Delhi and started his Civil Services preparation. He chooses Anthropology as his optional subject. 

He claimed that moving to Delhi’s helped him gain a lot of knowledge. He made many new friends with whom he regularly discussed about UPSC preparation, both with those who had taken the exam and others who had not.

Right guidance is very important

UPSC is a long journey, sometimes aspirants divert from the right path and this leads to cost of their attempts. Waseem believes that in this examination right guidance and direction, plays a very important role in the aspirant’s life while preparing for the exam. Aspirants can take the help of coaching, toppers, selected candidates, teacher's, veterans’ aspirants or to any one. It can be from any source.

Dedication and consistency are mandatory

Waseem admits that maintaining that determination and dedication needed for the examination was a little bit of a challenge during the preparation phase but dedication and consistency are mandatory. He advised the aspirants to maintain consistency and determination towards this exam. It requires sheer determination and thorough preparation in multiple domains, from history to technology, to clear these examinations.

Know the UPSC Syllabus

The syllabus is the soul of any exam. Knowing the syllabus is the most important thing to do before you go through the study materials. Aspirants should read, understand and follow the syllabus for UPSC civil service examination. Knowing the syllabus will help you to choose relevant study materials, notes etc.

Newspaper and current affairs strategy

Waseem said, he kept the newspaper reading at one of the highest priority in his preparation phase. He believes that newspapers help in all 3 phases: PRELIMS, MAINS and interview. But before reading newspaper aspirants must be aware of what to read and how to utilise it in your preparation.

At last, Waseem advised the aspirants that UPSC is a long journey, stay positive during the preparation phase. Just focus on your goal and keep struggling consistently.
