SUCCESS STORY : Ahmedabad doc finishes 12th in UPSC

Dhaval Patel (23), a post-graduate student of radiology at B J Medical college, Ahmedabad, has bagged the 12th position in Union Public Service Commission's final results.
This, according to old-timers in the bureaucracy, is the highest rank ever attained by a candidate from Gujarat in this exam.

Dhaval's father, Kirit Patel, is a taluka development officer (TDO) in Viramgam and mother an X-ray technician in Western Railway. For Dhaval's family, the results were rather surprising as this was his first attempt.

"I had not worked too hard for UPSC exam as I was also simultaneously doing my MBBS internship and preparing for post-graduate entrance test," says Dhaval.

He is still in a dilemma on whether to join the IAS or pursue a career in medicine.

This year, 16 candidates from Gujarat appeared in the final interview. Four of them have made it to the final list. Kartikey Budhabhatti (27) from Kothara village in Kutch, got 70th rank. He will get IFS. At present, he is working as an executive with Axis Bank in Nalia, Kutch.

Tejas Rathod, an MBA from KS School of Business Managment at Gujarat University, got 585th rank in UPSC and would get Indian Revenue Service.

"I am not satisfied with my results as I want to be an IAS officer. I will write the exam once more," said Tejas, whose parents are doctors in Tharad, Banaskantha. At present, he is working as a mamlatdar in Limkheda, Panchmahals district.

Pradhyuman Meena, son of retired IAS officer BP Meena, got 703th rank. He would also get IRS but this officer with Life Insurance Corporation in Dhandhuka would still like to make another attempt at the UPSC to make it to the IAS.
